| Obverse description | Facing left, a large youthful crowned bust of King David II occupies the central field within a beaded inner circle. The effigy displays a stylised crown with prominent fleurs, rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style characteristic of hammered medieval Scottish coinage. The king's features are rendered in high relief with flowing hair visible below the crown. The surrounding legend is inscribed in uncial Latin characters reading DAVID · REX · SCOTORVM (David, King of Scots). |

| Reverse description | A long voided cross extends to the coin's beaded inner circle, dividing the reverse field into four quarters.
