| 背面描述 | Long cross pattée extending to the coin's edge, dividing the field into four quadrants, each containing three pellets arranged in a triangular pattern — a design characteristic of the second issue of David II's first coinage. The cross arms are boldly struck and clearly delineated against the flat silver field. A beaded inner circle frames the central design, with the peripheral legend in uncial Latin letters reading REX SCOTTORVM, running clockwise between the inner and outer beaded borders. |

David II returned from English captivity in 1341 after the disaster at Halidon Hill and the decade-long exile in France, and his coinage program was a direct reassertion of Scottish royal authority. The 2nd Issue of his 1st Coinage reflects a subtle weight reduction from the earliest pennies, part of a broader adjustment to align Scottish silver with the degraded bullion realities of mid-14th century trade. Sp#5088 pieces are scarce partly because David spent eleven of his reign's years either in exile or imprisoned at the English court following his capture at Neville's Cross in 1346.
