Beschrijving voorzijde A detailed flowering plant with broad leaves and roots occupies the central field, rendered in relief against a plain background. The commemorative legend '50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BANK OF BIAFRA' curves along the upper periphery. The dual dates '1967' and '2017' flank the lower portion of the plant on either side, while the denomination 'ONE PENNY' is inscribed in bold lettering along the lower rim.

Beschrijving keerzijde The central device depicts the coat of arms of Biafra, featuring a tall palm tree rising from a rising sun with radiating rays above a body of water, the whole enclosed within a pair of curved elephant tusks forming a crescent shape. The motto 'PEACE · UNITY · FREEDOM' is inscribed along the lower periphery, separating the two tusk elements. The design is bold and well-struck in high relief against a smooth field.

Aanvullende informatie

Biafra declared independence from Nigeria in 1967, triggering a civil war that ended in January 1970 with the republic's defeat and reabsorption. It has not existed as a sovereign state since. Coins issued under the Biafra name after that date are not products of any recognized government — they are fantasy pieces, typically sold to collectors under the framing of a separatist cause that retains symbolic currency among the Igbo diaspora.
