Obverse description A boldly rendered grid cross occupies the central field, with flared, concave-sided arms characteristic of the Maltese cross form. The interior of each arm is decorated with a dense, irregular pellet or granular pattern, giving the cross a richly textured appearance. The design fills the flan, leaving little to no border, consistent with the crude hammered coinage of medieval Gotland.
