Additional information

Olav Haraldsson's penning issues are among the earliest Norwegian royal coinages, struck at a time when Christianization was still being enforced by sword rather than persuasion. Olav modeled his coinage directly on contemporary Anglo-Saxon penny types — unsurprising given his years raiding and serving as a mercenary in England before seizing the Norwegian throne in 1015.

Skaare 2 is exceptionally rare in any condition. Most attributable survivors came from hoards rather than circulation finds.
