Obverse description Crowned, bearded bust of King Harald III facing right in three-quarter view, depicted in mid-length armored attire with chain mail or scale armor visible at the shoulder. The king raises a sword upward in his right hand, the blade extending toward the upper right field. The effigy is rendered in the bold, schematic style characteristic of late Viking-age Danish coinage, with pronounced facial features and curling hair. The legend HARLD R runs around the periphery, partially visible within the beaded border.
