Obverse description Crowned quartered shield of Bavaria-Palatinate arms within a beaded inner circle, surmounted by a bishop's mitre. The quarters display the lozengy fusilly of Bavaria alternating with the lion rampant of the Palatinate, reflecting Ernest of Bavaria's dynastic identity as Prince-Bishop. The shield is centrally positioned within the field, rendered in the characteristic hammered style of late 16th-century Liège coinage. A circumferential Latin legend runs between the beaded inner circle and the coin's irregular outer edge.
