Below the truncation, the date 1879 appears prominently at the base, flanked by the essai mark ESSAI. to the left and the engraver's signature C. WURDEN. to the right. The entire design is enclosed within a finely beaded border. The style reflects the academic neoclassical medallic tradition of the Paris Mint. |
