Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Liberty occupies the central field, her hair loosely gathered and flowing in waves over her shoulder, with a headband inscribed LIBERTAD across the brow. The peripheral legend REPUBLICA ARGENTINA arcs around the bust, reading from lower left to upper right. Below the truncation, the date 1879 appears prominently at the base, flanked by the essai mark ESSAI. to the left and the engraver's signature C. WURDEN. to the right. The entire design is enclosed within a finely beaded border. The style reflects the academic neoclassical medallic tradition of the Paris Mint.
