The shield is surmounted by a ducal crown and enclosed by a plain inner border. The circular Latin legend CAROLVS . EMANVEL. runs along the outer margin, separated from the central device by a beaded or plain border. The coin is struck on an irregular flan characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the late sixteenth century. |
