正面描述 Draped bust of Prince João facing right, occupying the central field, with the date below. The mint designation 'DGOA' appears to the left of the bust and the denomination 'PARDAO' to the right, both in Latin script. The legends and date are struck in a characteristic hammered style typical of the Goa mint colonial issues of the early nineteenth century.

附加信息

The Pardao was the dominant silver unit of Portuguese India for centuries, but the João Prince issues of 1808–1818 occupy a specific administrative moment: Portugal's royal court had fled Lisbon for Rio de Janeiro under British escort in 1807, leaving colonial mints like Goa operating under delegated authority during the prince regent's Brazilian exile. Goa's mint output during this decade was shaped more by local bullion availability and the demands of coastal trade than by any coherent metropolitan monetary policy.

Gomes distinguishes two varieties under JR 15 and JR 16, with differences in die execution significant enough to warrant separate catalog numbers.
