Bahawalpur's copper paise of this period were struck under Sadiq Muhammad Khan V, who had acceded to the gaddi in 1907 at around fourteen years of age under British paramountcy. The state maintained its own coinage rights — a privilege jealously preserved by the Nawabs throughout the colonial period — though by this point the issues were tightly constrained in both denomination and distribution. Y#7.1 distinguishes this subtype from the closely related Y#7.2 by its die characteristics, a detail that matters given how few collectors parse the series carefully.
