| Obverse description | Crude hammered copper flan bearing a Devanagari legend arranged in two or three lines across the field, reading 'sri / gopa / la' in reference to the issuing ruler Gopal Rao Patwardhan. The script is rendered in a bold, somewhat irregular hand characteristic of provincial Maratha copper coinage. The flan is irregular in outline with a broad, flat rim, and the surfaces show the typical granular texture of hand-struck base-metal issues of this period. |
