Amanullah Khan declared Afghan independence from British suzerainty in April 1919, triggering the Third Anglo-Afghan War within weeks. This paisa belongs to the first coinage issued under his rule — a deliberate assertion of full sovereign minting authority at a moment when the war was still unresolved.
