The legend OPVS IVSTITIÆ PAX arcs around the upper field, referencing the biblical text 'opus iustitiae pax' (the work of justice is peace). In the exergue, the inscription ANNO / XII denotes the twelfth year of Doge Domenico Contarini's reign. The design is executed in bold relief with fine detailing on the figural elements, consistent with the high artistic standards of the Venetian Zecca in the later seventeenth century. |
