| Reverse description | The reverse presents a crowned allegorical figure of Justice seated facing, holding an upraised sword in her right hand and a pair of scales in her left, flanked on either side by reclining lions at her feet and olive branches in the field, evoking themes of sovereign justice and peace. The legend OPVS IVSTITIÆ PAX arcs around the upper field, referencing the biblical text 'opus iustitiae pax' (the work of justice is peace). In the exergue, the inscription ANNO / XII denotes the twelfth year of Doge Domenico Contarini's reign. The design is executed in bold relief with fine detailing on the figural elements, consistent with the high artistic standards of the Venetian Zecca in the later seventeenth century. |
