| Description de l’avers | The national coat of arms of Peru occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: a vicuña in the upper left, a cinchona tree in the upper right, and a cornucopia spilling coins in the lower section. The shield is flanked by a palm branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right, tied together at the base with a ribbon. A civic wreath surmounts the shield. The circular legend BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERU arcs around the upper periphery, with the date 2013 positioned at the lower center. The coin has a distinctive twelve-sided (dodecagonal) inner border within the round flan. |

The Paracas culture, flourishing on Peru's southern coast roughly between 800 BCE and 100 CE, produced some of the most technically sophisticated textiles of the ancient world — burial mantles with thread counts exceeding those achievable on modern industrial looms. This coin is part of the BCRP's ongoing "Riqueza y Orgullo del Perú" series, which began in 2010 and has issued dozens of collector-oriented circulating commemoratives pairing bimetallic or alloy compositions with pre-Columbian and natural heritage themes.
The Paracas necropolis, excavated by Julio C. Tello beginning in 1927, yielded over 400 mummy bundles wrapped in these extraordinary textiles, many still vivid after two millennia in the hyper-arid coastal desert.
