正面描述 The obverse depicts the crowned effigy of King Henry IV standing boldly upright within a large warship, facing the viewer, holding a sword aloft in his right hand and a quartered shield of England and France in his left. The king wears a crown and armour, and the ship's hull is rendered with decorative clinker-built planking, with rigging visible at the mast to the left and a crow's nest above. Waves are stylised below the vessel's hull. The peripheral legend in uncial Gothic lettering runs between two beaded circles, proclaiming the king's titles over England, France, Ireland, and Aquitaine.

附加信息

Henry IV's heavy coinage was abandoned precisely because it was financially untenable. The nobles struck at the traditional Edwardian weight of 128.6 grains were being exported and melted on the continent, where the gold-to-silver ratio made bullion more valuable than the face denomination. By 1412, the Crown accepted the inevitable and reduced the noble's weight for the light coinage — a concession driven not by policy preference but by the simple arithmetic of arbitrage draining English gold reserves.
