Obverse description The obverse depicts the crowned effigy of King Henry IV standing boldly upright within a large warship, facing the viewer, holding a sword aloft in his right hand and a quartered shield of England and France in his left. The king wears a crown and armour, and the ship's hull is rendered with decorative clinker-built planking, with rigging visible at the mast to the left and a crow's nest above. Waves are stylised below the vessel's hull. The peripheral legend in uncial Gothic lettering runs between two beaded circles, proclaiming the king's titles over England, France, Ireland, and Aquitaine.
