| Reverse description | The reverse features an elaborate floriated cross with lions and fleurs-de-lis alternating in the four angles, each enclosed within a cusped compartment formed by a quadrilobe frame. At the centre of the cross is a small ornamental device. Crowns and heraldic motifs occupy the spaces between the arms of the cross. The field is richly decorated with foliage and Gothic ornamental detail characteristic of the heavy coinage period. The circumferential legend in uncial Gothic script, set between two beaded circles, bears the well-known scriptural apotropaic inscription invoking Christ's passage through the crowd. |
