The New Sheqel series launched in 1986 following the 1985 economic stabilization plan, which slashed triple-digit inflation by introducing the new currency at a rate of 1,000 old sheqalim to one new sheqel. This 1 NIS note represents the lowest denomination in that post-crisis series.
