| Obverse description | Central square hole flanked by the four-character legend of the Sangpyeong Tongbo coinage, arranged in cruciform fashion around the perforation in the traditional Chinese reading order: 常 (Sang) at top, 平 (Pyong) at bottom, 通 (Tong) at right, and 寶 (Bo) at left, all rendered in regular script (kaishu) within a plain circular border. The inscription translates as 'Ever-Normal Circulating Treasure,' referencing the Joseon Dynasty's Sangpyeongcheong (Ever-Normal Bureau). The characters are cleanly cast in low relief against a flat field. |
