| Obverse description | Cast copper cash coin of traditional East Asian form, featuring a central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion within the inner field. Reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left, the legend 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo) encircles the square perforation, rendered in regular script (kaishu) style. The raised characters are set against a flat, unadorned field bounded by an inner rim surrounding the square hole and an outer raised rim encircling the coin. The surfaces show the characteristic granular texture of sand-cast bronze production. |

The "Ho, Sun" inscription on this 1 Mun identifies it as a product of one of the numerous government offices and military installations licensed to operate their own furnaces during the later Joseon period — a decentralized minting arrangement that produced dozens of distinct issuing authorities across the nineteenth century. Attribution to the specific office behind this mark has been a persistent point of disagreement among Korean numismatists.
