| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a bold, multi-line Arabic calligraphic inscription in a traditional Afghan style, giving the name and titles of Amir Sher Ali Khan. The inscription is enclosed within a plain inner circle, with the field decorated by small pellet rosettes arranged in groups at the interstices of the lettering. The AH date 1288 appears in Eastern Arabic numerals along the lower margin of the inner circle. The outer border consists of a reeded or milled rim typical of hammered Afghan gold coinage of this period. |
