Shahrokh, a grandson of Nadir Shah, ruled Khorasan in a state of near-constant catastrophe — blinded twice by rivals, deposed and restored multiple times, and ruling what amounted to a rump province rather than an empire. His third reign, roughly 1772 to 1783, was the longest stable stretch he managed, though "stable" is relative for a ruler who spent much of his life recovering from mutilation inflicted by his own court factions. Gold mohurs from this period are the product of the Mashhad mint, the only facility still under his nominal control.
