The legend records the kalima (Islamic profession of faith) along with the name and titles of the emperor Shah Jahan. An elaborate foliate scroll border in high relief frames the entire field, with intertwining floral and arabesque vine motifs characteristic of the high Mughal aesthetic. The legends fill the field completely, with the script rendered in a flowing, deeply struck calligraphic style. The rim is plain and slightly raised. |
