| Descrizione del rovescio | An elaborate eight-petalled lotus mandala fills the entire field, each petal bearing Devanagari legends relating to royal and religious epithets of the issuing monarch. At the centre of the mandala is a circular medallion containing further Devanagari inscription surrounded by a ring of pellets, evoking a traditional tantric yantra design. The petals are separated by concave cusped interstices, and the whole composition is contained within a plain inner circle and an outer beaded border, consistent with the coin's obverse periphery. |

Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah reigned under the effective control of Prime Minister Bir Shamsher Rana, part of the Rana oligarchy that had dominated Nepal since 1846 by keeping the monarchy ceremonial and powerless. The gold mohar continued to serve the Nepalese hill economy during this period, circulating alongside the Indian rupee in a monetary environment where British India's influence was increasingly encroaching on Nepalese trade and currency use.
The KM#673.1 designation distinguishes this from closely related varieties struck under the same king — die differences in this series are well documented and meaningful to specialists.
