| Obverse description | The note is printed on a vivid yellow ground and divided into three vertical panels by ornamental framing in orange and red. The left and right panels each contain a circular vignette — the left showing a harbour scene with sailing vessels, the right a multi-storey civic building — both set within scrolling Art Nouveau cartouches with pendant tassels, and each bearing the denomination '1 MARK' in bold red letterpress below. The central panel carries the serial number in red above the inscription 'NORDISCHEN', with the Kiel civic device — a cross-and-anchor emblem — at centre, and 'MESSE IN KIEL' beneath; the designer's signature 'C.
