Additional information

Lengefeld's Wittig und Schwabe metalware factory turned to porcelain emergency coinage in 1921 as Germany's postwar zinc and aluminum supplies remained unreliable and Notgeld issuers scrambled for any workable material. Meissen and other Saxon porcelain manufacturers supplied blanks to dozens of Erzgebirge firms during this window, making the region unusually well-represented in porcelain Notgeld issues. The brown glaze variant catalogued here under Scheuch 303a is distinct from the white-bodied issues of the same series.
