Grünberg (now Zielona Góra, Poland) was a minor textile and wine-producing town in Lower Silesia when it issued this note under the Notgeld emergency currency scheme that proliferated across German municipalities during the severe coin shortages of 1916–1922. Local magistrates were left to arrange printing independently, which accounts for the wide variation in print quality and paper stock across Silesian Notgeld issues.
Johannes Arndt in Jena was a commercial printer, not a specialist security firm — a detail that matters when authenticating the series, since the printing characteristics lack the anti-counterfeiting refinements found in notes produced by houses like Giesecke & Devrient.
