The 1921 dating places this note in the second wave of local emergency currency — after the improvised wartime issues of 1914–1918 but before hyperinflation fully consumed the mark in 1922–1923. Gebrüder Borchers in Lübeck handled a substantial volume of northern German municipal Notgeld printing during this period, making them the regional equivalent of a utility printer for small-town finance offices.
