| Obverse description | The obverse is divided into three vertical panels with a blue and gold colour scheme. The central panel carries a large oval vignette with the elaborate quartered coat of arms of the former Electorate of Hesse, supported by two rampant gold lions beneath a royal crown, all set against a blue ground with scrollwork surround. The left panel bears a smaller municipal arms with crossed mining tools in red on white, accompanied by the motto 'Glück auf! Hier wohnt ein rei Geschlecht', while the right panel displays a red cross on white with the motto 'Standhaft und treu!'. The denomination 'Eine Mark' appears in Gothic script in both upper side panels, and the lower margin carries the issuing inscription 'Philippsthal an der Werra am 1. Oktober 1921. Der Gemeindevorstand' in elaborate calligraphic lettering. |
