| 背面描述 | Central field displays four Chinese ideograms arranged in a two-by-two grid, reading left to right and top to bottom, denoting the weight denomination standard. A single Manchu word is positioned at each lateral side of the central inscription. Decorative outlined cloud motifs occupy each corner of the field, imparting a refined aesthetic consistent with late Qing imperial pattern coinage. |

Kirin Province's 1884 pattern series emerged during the Qing court's fraught deliberations over modernizing its monetary system — a debate that dragged through the 1880s as provincial authorities pushed for steam-press minting while Beijing remained ambivalent. These patterns were struck as proof-of-concept pieces, almost certainly produced in small quantities to demonstrate mechanical minting capability rather than for any planned circulation. Kann 920 is among the rarer of the Kirin pattern entries, and white metal specimens of this mace denomination surface infrequently even in specialist sales.
