The Banque du Liban was established in 1964, replacing the Banque de Syrie et du Liban as Lebanon's central bank and issuing authority — this note belongs to the inaugural series printed for that new institution. Thomas De La Rue handled the production throughout the series run, a relationship Lebanon had maintained through the colonial banking period and carried forward into independence.

The 1 Livre denomination was effectively obsolete by the mid-1970s as inflation eroded its purchasing power, and the series officially closed out in 1980, just as the country's economic infrastructure was fracturing under the pressures of civil war.
