Part of the Turkish Mint's ongoing biographical series honoring Ottoman sultans, this piece commemorates Bayezid II, who ruled from 1481 to 1512 and is perhaps best remembered for granting asylum to Sephardic Jews expelled from Spain in 1492 — a decision that brought thousands of skilled craftsmen, physicians, and financiers into the empire at considerable geopolitical advantage.
