| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of King George I facing left, rendered in the neoclassical style by engraver Désiré-Albert Barre, whose name appears incuse in small letters beneath the truncation. The king is depicted as a young man with neatly combed hair swept back from the brow. The circular Greek legend ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α! ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ (George I, King of the Hellenes) runs along the upper periphery, with the date 1869 positioned in the lower exergual area flanked by small decorative stars. The coin's border is formed by a fine ring of beading. |

| Additional information |
These were struck at the Paris Mint under a broader coinage reform tied to Greece's membership in the Latin Monetary Union, which the country had joined in 1867. The one-lepton denomination was effectively the smallest practical unit in circulation, and demand for it was modest — the combined mintage across both years was limited, with 1870 issues considerably scarcer than those of the preceding year.
