| Descrizione del dritto | Printed in red on a light background, the obverse bears a right-facing portrait vignette of Lempira, the Lenca chieftain and national hero, occupying the right half of the note, with his name inscribed to the right. The national coat of arms of Honduras appears as a vignette to the left, surrounded by guilloche underprint patterns and large numeral "1" guards at each corner. The issuer inscription "REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS, C.A. BANCO CENTRAL DE HONDURAS" runs along the top, with the date and serial number printed above and below the central design area, and three facsimile signatures with titles arranged along the lower portion. |

The P#89 series marked Honduras's transition toward a more security-conscious print run for the 1 Lempira denomination, though the note itself remained one of the lower-security issues in the Central American region at the time — watermark and embedded thread without the optical features appearing on higher denominations in the same family. The Banco Central had been gradually modernizing its currency program through the 2000s following persistent counterfeiting pressure on small-denomination notes, which circulate hardest and are replaced least often.
Cotton substrate on low-denomination, high-circulation notes like this tends to show heavy soiling quickly in the Honduran market. Uncirculated examples from this short window are less common than the print run might suggest.
