The Limbaži lats was part of Latvia's long-running regional collector series, in which individual Latvian towns were honored on annual silver issues throughout the 2000s. Limbaži, one of the oldest towns in Latvia, received its founding charter in the 13th century under the Livonian Order — the same military-religious body that built the stone castle whose ruins still define the town's historic center.
Mintages in this series were tightly controlled, typically under 10,000 pieces, keeping secondary market demand steady across the full run.
