| Obverse description | The obverse presents a faithful representation of a pfennig struck during the episcopate of Bishop Albert (1198–1229), centered in the field against a plain background. The effigy depicts a frontal bust of the bishop wearing a mitre, his right hand raised bearing a cross and his left hand holding a crosier, each surmounted by a small globus. The circular legend RĪGAS NAUDAI 800 (Riga Money 800) arcs across the upper field, while the dates 1211 and 2011 flank the denomination inscription 1 LATS in the lower portion. The entire design is bordered by a continuous pearl or beaded ring along the rim. |
