Aanvullende informatie

Burma's post-independence coinage was administered through the Union Bank of Burma, established after the country broke from British monetary arrangements following the 1948 independence settlement. The 1952 series marked the first substantive rethinking of the denomination structure since colonial-era rupee fractions, deliberately moving to a decimal kyat system. Production of this type ran through 1965, the year Ne Win's Revolutionary Council completed its nationalization of the banking sector — after which the coinage was progressively withdrawn and replaced with issues bearing explicitly socialist iconography.
