| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of President Hastings Kamuzu Banda, rendered in high sculptural relief by engraver Paul Vincze, occupying the upper two-thirds of the field. The portrait depicts the President in civilian attire with a high collar, his close-cropped hair rendered with fine textural detail.
