A circular Latin legend surrounds the cross, reading PRIN NEOCOMENSIS 1621, identifying Henri II as Prince of Neuchâtel and providing the mint year. The flan is characteristically irregular and struck on a thin billon planchet by hammer, resulting in uneven rims. The lettering is bold and slightly uneven in spacing, typical of provincial early seventeenth-century hammered coinage. |
