Four diagonal lines or pellets fill the inter-spaces between the cross arms, creating a characteristic wheel-like composition. The circumferential legend, in uncial Gothic characters, reads MON NOV AVS, an abbreviation for Moneta Nova Austriae (New Money of Austria), accompanied by the date elements and ornamental stops. The entire design is characteristic of the Vienna Mint's late medieval coinage style under Frederick III. |
