Aversbeschreibung Central field bears the shield of the Regenstein stag-horn arms, surmounted by an ornate crested helmet with mantling rendered in the hammered style typical of mid-16th-century German small coinage. The shield and helm are depicted in a bold, slightly crude manner consistent with provincial die-cutting of the period. A beaded or rope-pattern inner circle frames the central device. The circular Latin legend surrounds the design, reading VLRICVS. C(O). I(N). REGEN., identifying the issuer as Count Ulrich of Regenstein.

Reversbeschreibung A large Gothic letter B is superimposed upon a long cross whose arms extend to the inner legend border, dividing the field into four quarters. The two-digit date numeral appears in the lower portion of the field, divided by the lower arm of the cross or integrated into the lower lobe of the B, a characteristic feature of this issue across the years 1546 to 1549. The surrounding Latin legend, separated by stops, reads AC. D - OM. I. - BLA - NKE., an abbreviation for 'ac Dominus in Blankenburg,' referencing Ulrich XII's additional lordship of Blankenburg. A beaded inner circle frames the central device.

Zusätzliche Informationen

The Counts of Regenstein were among the more stubborn holdouts of petty territorial coinage in the Harz region — a dynasty that had long outlived its political relevance by the mid-sixteenth century. Ulrich XII struck this Körtling during a period when the county was effectively bankrupt and deeply entangled in jurisdictional disputes with the Bishopric of Halberstadt. The Körtling denomination itself was a small regional billon or silver unit common to northern German territories, used to fill the gap left by larger coins ordinary transactions couldn't accommodate.

Regenstein was absorbed into Brandenburg-Prussia not long after this issue, making Ulrich XII one of the final issuing authorities of independent comital coinage from the county.
