| Obverse description | Central field bears the Arabic legend 'Sultan Mahmud' inscribed in two lines in a bold, somewhat crude calligraphic style characteristic of Tunisian hammered billon coinage of the mid-18th century. The inscription is contained within a simple circular border, with no additional devices or ornamental elements.
