The legend reads 'Currency of Pontianak and Mempawa, year AH 1223,' identifying the dual issuing territories of the Sultanate and providing the Hijri date corresponding to 1808 CE. The lettering is boldly executed in raised relief, arranged in three horizontal registers across the coin's surface, consistent with Malay sultanate keping coinage of the period. |
