| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse is entirely filled with a multi-line Arabic inscription occupying the full field within a circular border, presented in a cursive Jawi script. The legend reads 'Currency of Pontianak and Mempawa, year AH 1223,' identifying the dual issuing territories of the Sultanate and providing the Hijri date corresponding to 1808 CE. The lettering is boldly executed in raised relief, arranged in three horizontal registers across the coin's surface, consistent with Malay sultanate keping coinage of the period. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Pontianak was founded in 1771 by Syarif Abdurrahman Alkadrie, an Arab-Malay noble whose descendants ruled the sultanate into the twentieth century. This keping was struck under his son, Syarif Kasim, making it one of the earliest indigenous copper issues from Borneo. Dutch influence over the sultanate was already tightening by 1808 — Pontianak had signed its first treaty with the VOC in 1778 — yet the sultanate retained enough autonomy to strike its own coinage for local trade circulation.
KM#1 status confirms this as the foundational type of the Pontianak series.
