1 Kasu - Sri Vira

The Madurai Nayaks ruled as nominal vassals of the Vijayanagara Empire before asserting effective independence following Vijayanagara's collapse after the Battle of Talikota in 1565. The dynasty minted copper kasu in substantial quantities throughout the seventeenth century to service local market transactions — small enough in value that they circulated hard and were rarely saved. Most survivors show significant wear precisely because of this.
