Reverse description The reverse bears the royal title of the issuing ruler arranged in three horizontal lines of Tamil script, divided by parallel incuse rules running across the field, a layout conventional for Bana copper kasus of the Madurai region. The legend reads 'Samarakolakalan' (சமர கொலா கலன்), distributed as three syllabic groups across the registers. The lettering is bold and deeply struck, with minor weakness at the flan edges due to the irregular planchet. No additional devices or border elements are present.

Additional information

The Madurai Sultanate was itself an anomaly — a breakaway provincial administration that outlasted its Tughluq overlords, surviving in the deep south long after Delhi's authority had collapsed across the Deccan. Samarakolakalan is among the later sultans of this line, ruling during the dynasty's terminal decline before the Vijayanagara Empire absorbed the region entirely. The copper kasu coinage of these later rulers is poorly documented and attribution remains contested among specialists; MSI#572 is one of relatively few anchored reference points for this reign.
