The legend is arranged centrally and fills much of the available flan surface. The irregular flan edges are characteristic of the hand-struck hammered technique employed throughout the Madurai Nayak coinage series. The Tamil characters are rendered in the period style consistent with early 17th- to early 18th-century South Indian copper issues. |

The Madurai Nayaks ruled as nominally Vijayanagara vassals long after that empire had effectively collapsed at Talikota in 1565, and their copper kasu coinage reflects a kingdom sustaining administrative and ritual legitimacy through familiar monetary forms. Attribution across the dynasty's many rulers remains difficult — no regnal dating appears on these pieces, so the 135-year span assigned to this type is an honest admission of scholarly limits rather than imprecision.
